The character crest, properly called 'Maru no Uchi Age Monji,' has two variations: 'Agejo' where the 'te' is facing upwards, and 'Sagejo' where it is parallel to the lower line. The Murakami clan, who used 'Agejo,' was defeated by Takeda Shingen of Kai, and their army was dismantled, leading to the disintegration of their crest. Many camouflaged their family crests along with their surnames, yet 'Agejo' remained a secret crest for many. Meanwhile, in Kansai, the Murakami Suigun flourished, and the 'Sagejo' crest was retained. Thus, during the Edo period, people in Kanto used 'Agejo,' while those in Kansai used 'Sagejo.'
