Royal Palace of Gödöllő Hungary Postcard
The Royal Palace of Gödöllő, also known as Grassalkovich Palace, is one of the most important and grandest monuments of Hungarian Baroque architecture. Built in the 18th century by Count Antal Grassalkovich I, the palace later became the favourite summer residence of Emperor Franz Joseph I and Queen Elisabeth (Sisi) of Austria-Hungary. Its striking double-U-shaped layout, elegant white and soft pink facades, and sprawling symmetrical gardens reflect the height of aristocratic luxury and imperial history in the region.
Surrounded by a magnificent landscape park, the palace complex features a beautifully restored Baroque theatre, riding school, and lavishly decorated ceremonial halls. Visitors from around the world are drawn to its rich history, particularly the stories surrounding Queen Elisabeth's deep affection for Hungary and the town of Gödöllő. Today, it stands as a vibrant cultural centre hosting classical concerts, theatrical performances, and exhibitions that bring its imperial past to life.
