Russell Glacier is an active, advancing ice sheet outlet located in central-western Greenland, positioned just a short distance from the settlement of Kangerlussuaq. Flowing directly from the vast Greenland Ice Sheet, this spectacular natural wonder terminates in a dramatic vertical wall of ice that rises up to 60 metres above the surrounding landscape, bisected by roaring meltwater rivers during the brief Arctic summer. The glacier is renowned for its accessibility and the dramatic calving events that occur when massive chunks of ancient ice break away and crash into the glacial river below.
