About This Design

Saint Agnes Pure Witness of Christ Key Ring

Saint Agnes Pure Witness of Christ Key Ring

A dignified and historically nuanced portrayal of Saint Agnes, one of the most venerated martyrs of ancient Rome. According to Vatican News, her name—Hagnē, meaning “pure”—became a symbol of the spiritual clarity she embodied. Though tradition places her martyrdom in 304 AD during the persecution of Diocletian, Treccani notes that some historians believe she may have died earlier, under Decius (250–251) or Valerian (258–260), since details were already obscure by the 4th century. Agnes was a young girl, about 12–13 years old, whose beauty attracted the attention of a powerful Roman youth. When she refused him, having consecrated herself to Christ, she was denounced and imprisoned. Vatican State recounts that she was humiliated in a brothel and ultimately executed—beheaded in Western tradition, while Eastern sources describe death by fire. Her enduring symbol is the lamb, reflecting both her innocence and the linguistic echo of agnus (“lamb”). She is honored on 21 January, and her principal shrine, the Basilica of Sant’Agnese fuori le mura, stands near the site of her burial. Ideal for devotional prints, educational materials, church publications, and designs celebrating early Christian sanctity.
