Saint John Chrysostom Doctor of the Church Mouse Mat

Saint John Chrysostom Doctor of the Church Mouse Mat

A powerful and historically grounded portrayal of Saint John Chrysostom (c.347–407), the Archbishop of Constantinople and one of the greatest preachers in Christian history. According to Wikipedia, he was born in Antioch around 347 and became renowned for his eloquence, earning the title “Chrysostom” — Golden‑Mouthed — for his brilliant homilies and scriptural commentaries. Britannica highlights his role as a fearless reformer: he denounced corruption, defended the poor, and called clergy and laity alike to authentic Christian living. His preaching drew immense crowds and shaped the spiritual life of both East and West. The Catholic Encyclopedia emphasizes his ascetic formation: after baptism, he lived as a monk and hermit before returning to Antioch, where his preaching made him the most celebrated voice of the Eastern Church. Catholic News Agency recounts his later years in Constantinople, where his bold moral teaching provoked imperial hostility, leading to exile and eventual death in 407 at Comana. Despite suffering, he remained steadfast, famously saying: “Glory be to God for all things.” Venerated across Orthodox, Catholic, Oriental, Anglican, and Lutheran traditions, he is honored as a Doctor of the Church and one of the Three Holy Hierarchs. His feast is celebrated on 13 September (West) and 27 January (Translation of Relics). Perfect for sacred art prints, theological publications, patristic studies, and designs celebrating preaching, wisdom, and spiritual courage.
