Scottish MacLean Clan Castle, Tartan Greeting Card

Duart Castle, the historic seat of the Scottish MacLean clan, is located on the Isle of Mull in the Inner Hebrides. Situated on a high crag, Duart has guarded the Sound of Mull since the 13th century. It is constructed with a strong curtain wall and a substantial tower or keep that was added about 1390. The Maclean, MacLean, McLain, etc. clan is one of the oldest in the Highlands, and at its height owned vast tracts of land in Argyll and the Inner Hebrides. Duart Castle was acquired in 1911 by the clan’s chief, Sir Fitzroy Maclean, 10th Baronet, who restored it. Duart remains in Maclean ownership and has been open to the public varying hours April through mid-October (when the world was “normal”). If you’re planning a visit, check for the current schedule.
