The line of Stewart monarchs of Scotland, and then of Great Britain, which lasted from 1371 until 1714, descended from Marjorie, daughter of King Robert I (the Bruce) and her husband Walter, 6th High Steward of Scotland who at 21 had commanded the centre of theScottish army at the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314.
