This design features a sketch by French artist Albert Besnard (1849–1934). It shows a deathly figure standing apart from a crowd of people; he is dressed in an elegant suit, but his bare skull is showing, signifying that he is not one of the living. It is a symbol of the power of death over our lives. The original work was completed in 1900.
