Each year, an amazing number of swans and snow geese migrate to the Mount Vernon area of Washington State. You can see - and loudly hear! - these lovely birds, as well as owls, hawks, eagles, and an array of other waterfowl, at the Fir Island Farms wildlife preserve. It's an amazing experience to feel the soft late winter winds as the sun falls, while the geese fly from the fields into Skagit Bay for the night. As the sun sets, you can make out the various shorelines of islands and peninsulas in the distance. This artwork shows a couple of snow geese flying low over the tidal lands at sunset.
