Formed in October, 1957, Southern Television began transmitting programmes on 30th August, 1958, from the ITA station at Chillerton Down on the Isle of Wight. In the months before, work was in hand to let everyone in the region know - television dealers, together with potential viewers and, very importantly of course, advertisers. Featuring original artwork used in Southern publicity, this colourful mug takes us back to the days when the television service was in black & white, but the programmes themselves provided a great deal more local colour.
