The Sri Yantra, or Yantra of Creation, originated in our pre-history. It has been known in the Hindu and Buddhist traditions and since the Vedic times as the most powerful and mystically beautiful of all yantras (geometric mandalas known as power diagrams). It represents the timeless creative principle of the universe, the continuous unfoldment of all realms of creation from the central source, and with that mindfulness, it is used as an object of meditation. The central point, called bindu, represents transcendental unity and the source of creation. The opposing sets of triangles represent the male and female principles which form creation, themselves being recognised as expressions of the polarity inherent in the creative force of the bindu. The surrounding geometries represent the realms of creation, entirely supported by the creative process, and which would have no reality whatsoever without the omnipresence of the transcendental source.~.~Yantras are a very significant remedial tool in Vedic astrology like mantras (which are concentrated sound vibrations). Yantras are said to be visible forms of a mantra, mystical diagrams which have a lot of potent energy and power. These are geometrical compositions which are so precise and powerful that they emanate specific energy fields and continuous gazing at it can facilitate meditation. Each yantra is a sacred enclosure, a dwelling or residing place of deity associated with it. Not only in the Indian culture but many old cultures have had their own sacred symbols or sacred geometry. These geometric designs representative of their gods which has a sound vibration that corresponds to it Indians, Egyptians, Jews, Chinese and Mayans had planetary yantras to combat malefic influences. The Celtic knot motifs, Runes in Scandinavian countries, Tantric yantras and Buddhist mandala which can be traced back to Vedic sources. It is also important to note that all original cultures have a tradition of "sacred geometry". For example, there are tremendous similarities in the Celtic Knot motifs, sand paintings of the Native Americans, geometrical emblems of the ancient Hebrews and Oriental design patterns. Recent research in cymatics( the study of the interrelationship of wave -forms and matter has shown remarkable results : " The Hindu sacred symbol Om, when correctly uttered into the tonoscope, apparently produces the circle 'O', which is then filled in with concentric squares and triangles, finally producing , when the last traces of the 'm' have died away, a "yantra . Such complex energy transformations lend support to the conclusion that yantra and mantra in the ultimate sense are one and the same. Just as each planet has a mantra, a special sound energy, so too it possesses a yantra or special energy pattern. The yantra is the visible form, the energy body, of the mantra, and of the planet to which it corresponds.
