St. Matthias the Apostle (JMAS 09) Key Ring

St. Matthias (1st century) was chosen by lot in the interim between the Ascension and Pentecost to replace Judas Iscariot as an Apostle. Traditions vary somewhat about his post-selection ministry but agree that he suffered martyrdom. Here, he shoulders an axe as its instrument; in other representations, he may carry a spear or halberd.
