St. Philip the Apostle (JMAS 10)

Here, in the roundel at the top of the picture, St. Philip holds a tall, thin cross which is one of his principal attributes the other being a basket of loaves and fishes. The lush floral ornamentation at the bottom of the picture derives from miniatures, that is, the small illustrations used to decorate ancient or mediaeval illuminated manuscripts, in the Vatican Library. + Feast: May 3 + Image Credit (JMAS 10): Antique image of St. Philip the Apostle from a late 19th-century devotional print in chromolithography with gilt accents originally published by Josef Müller, Art Publisher, Munich, Germany, from the designer’s private collection of religious ephemera.
