Image of Struwwelpeter, a boy who does not groom himself properly from Der Struwwelpeter (1845) by Heinrich Hoffmann. Literally translated, Struwwel-Peter means Shaggy-Peter. The first English translation by Mark Twain "Slovenly Peter" appeared in 1848.
