Study of a Leopard (by Jean-Baptiste Oudry) Watch
This design features a painting by the French artist Jean-Baptiste Oudry (1686–1755), who is particularly associated with the Rococo movement; he is well known for his naturalistic pictures of wild animals. This painting shows a leopard lying against a tree and green foliage in the background. The leopard's black spots can be seen clearly against its white and golden orange fur. A leopard (Panthera pardus) is a big cat, and it is one of the five extant species in the scientific genus Panthera. Leopards can run at speeds of almost 40 mph. The original painting was completed circa 1732, and it is now housed in the Staatliches Museum Schwerin, Germany.
