Sunday Afternoon On The Island Of La Grande Jatte Jigsaw Puzzle
This product from our store features the painting ‘A Sunday Afternoon On The Island Of La Grande Jatte’ by French artist Georges-Pierre Seurat (1859-1891)
Seurat devised a technique known as pointillism, where small distinct dots of colour are applied to form an image. He used this technique on this particular painting. It took him over two years to paint and is one of his most famous works.
La Grande Jatte is a real island in France in the river Seine.
For Parisians,Sunday was the day to escape from the heat of the city and head for the shade of the trees and the cool breezes that came off the river. His painting shows many different people relaxing there.Below is a description of some of its various parts:
On the right we see a stylish couple: a woman with an umbrella who has a monkey on a leash and a man in his top hat.
On the left, another woman, also well dressed and extending her fishing pole over the water. There is a man with a black hat and a thin cane sitting down and looking at the river,a man lying down on the grass smoking a pipe and a woman knitting.
A man playing a horn, two soldiers standing at attention,a woman under a parasol in a boat filled with rowers and a little girl dressed in white who stares directly at the viewer of the painting.

I bought this jigsaw in 252 pieces because I originally bought it in 110 pieces. I found it a bit of a leap in terms of time commitment as this one took me approx 5 hours. It was definitely challenging and was on my boundary of tolerance. This is because I like to complete a puzzle in just a few hours. I find thousands of pieces tedious and having to store them leads to lostvpieces. I can never commit Diego busy lifestyle and not knowing when I will find the time and or motivation to go back to a puzzle.
The puzzle comes in a really durable gift box that will keep puzzle secure for a long time. It also fits neatly on to a small bookcase for storage. The image was centrally fixed with no border lines,it was also very good quality image.

Nice compact box, however, the picture of the jigsaw on the box is literally no more than 4 x 3 inches and as this is supposed to be a gift for someone to make the jigsaw based on the picture - I'm not sure how they are supposed to do that with such a small picture?! Can I suggest the box contains a larger picture of the jigsaw for those less able to see the extremely small details on the box sticker.
