Tai National Park in southwestern Côte d'Ivoire is a jewel of West Africa, protecting one of the largest remaining areas of primary tropical rainforest on the continent. Established in 1972, this expansive wilderness is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, renowned for its incredible biodiversity. The park is a sanctuary for some of the planet's rarest and most endangered species, including a significant population of chimpanzees. This forest is one of the very few places left in the world where these primates exhibit the unique and culturally complex behaviour of using stone and wooden tools to crack nuts, a skill passed down through generations.
