Takiyasha the Witch and the Skeleton Spectre postcard: This vintage art by Utagawa Kuniyoshi, of a tenth century fairy tale/ mythical Princess Takiyasha who summons a skeleton spectre to frighten Mitsukuni, done on a triplet of colour woodblock prints from the Edo period, around AD 1844. shown here The princess is reciting a spell written on a scroll. She summons up a giant skeleton which appears out of a terrifying black void, forcing its way through the tattered palace walls with its skeletal fingers to menace Mitsukuni and his companion who have come to hunt down the princess and any other conspirators from her late fathers plot against the emperor.
