The Common Brushtailed Possum from Australia Postcard

Like most possums the brushtail is nocturnal. In Australia it is one of the few marsupials that thrive in cities as well as natural environments. They are inventive and determined foragers with a liking for fruit trees, vegetable gardens and kitchen raids. The Gubbi Gubbi people (traditional inhabitants of the area in Australia) called it “coorooey”, which they took from the sound it makes. The town of Cooroy and Cooroy Mountain both take their name from this furry local.
