The MANDYLION is a Byzantine Greek word for a holy relic consisting of a rectangle of cloth upon which a miraculous image of the face of our Lord Jesus Christ was imprinted —the very first ICON ("image"). “Then the Lord asked that water and a cloth be brought to Him. He washed His Face, drying it with the cloth, and His Divine Image was imprinted upon it.”
