Pythagoras was an ancient Greek philosopher and mathematician (sort of a cult figure of antiquity), and one of the things he's famous for is his Pythagorean Theorem, which has been torturing students for millennia. The theorem states that the area of the square whose side is the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the areas of the squares on the other two sides. This distressed design contains the text in Greek and a decorative motif common in ancient Greece.
