Painted by famed French impressionist Edgar Degas, The Riders depicts jockeys on their mounts just prior to a race in the French countryside. Degas was widely known for his rendering of horses and horse racing, and also for beautiful renderings of the stage and ballet. This is one of his most celebrated paintings, and dates to 1876.
