Add your own text. The Soviet Union developed a lunar lander intending to land two cosmonauts on the moon before the United States could do so. The vehicle was successfully tested in earth orbit four times. Development problems with the rocket intended to take it to the moon led to the cancellation of the USSR's manned lunar program.
