this unusual vintage art is titled" The Satanic Satan Sowing Tares " by Felicien Rops 1833 –1898 a Belgian artist who often combined death and earthly pleasures/vices into his works this one was done in 1878. The technique used here is one of the artists favored techniques, a Heliogravure touched with soft-ground etching. the piece is an atmospheric, Its tonal impression printed on Japanese vellum. from the Series: Les Sataniques. At first glance, the image seems to be of a farmer sowing seeds in a field. Closer inspection reveals Satan as a giant wearing a big floppy hat and a white robe striding over a city in, presumably Paris. He is throwing down women, presumably loose women, to destroy the moral life of the city. Rop's is commenting on the hedonism of Paris life. He was also interested in the Satanism movement popular at the time.
