The Sun Voyager Solfar Sculpture Reykjavik Iceland Postcard
This postcard features the Sun Voyager (Solfar) sculpture in Reykjavik, Iceland. The steel sculpture resembles the Viking long-ship, Solfar, and was created by Icelandic sculptor Jon Gunnar Arnason. Yet, even though some people think that this is a Viking ship, it should be stressed that it wasn't the original intention of the sculptor. It is a dream boat and an ode to the sun. It contains within itself the promise of undiscovered territory, a dream of hope, progress and freedom.
In 1986 the district association of the west part of the city funded a competition for an outdoor sculpture, to celebrate Reykjavik‘s 200 year anniversary. Jon Gunnar Arnason's The Sun Voyager was the winning piece.
