This poster shows the twelve months of the Jewish calendar, and has the Torah [Bible] holidays Yom Kippur, Rosh Hashanah, Succot, Simchat Torah, Chanukkah, Tu b'Shevat, Purim, Pesach, Shavuot, and Tisha b'Av, arranged around the circle. Also shown are the Torah parshas, or portions, arranged in their approximate locations around the year. The only parshas that always fall on the same holiday are Vezot HaBracha and Bereshit, at Simchat Torah, when the yearly cycle begins anew. Because the calendar is lunar based, the rest of the yomin tovim and chagim [festivals and pilgrimages] match up with different parshas every year, though always between just two or three. The names of the twelve tribes of Israel are also shown with their corresponding months, as well as the season of the year [Northern Hemisphere]. Bereshit [Genesis], Shemot [Exodus], Vayikra [Leviticus], Numbers [BaMidbar] and Devarim [Deuteronomy] are also noted in their appropriate positions. It also lists the megillot, Song of Solomon, Esther, Ruth, Lamentations, and Ecclesiastes. This is not to be used for calculating exact dates, but rather to be an educational device, by illustrating the overall schema of the Torah cycle in a way that is accessible to those both learned in Torah and those just starting.
