    The Trio Tree Stumps Florissant Fossil Beds Magnet

    The Trio, three Petrified Clone Redwoods were created when a Redwood tree was damaged causing it to grow several new trunks from it's base using the same root system. These trees grew until a volcanic lahar buried their bases. The top part died but the stumps were preserved and later excavated. In this picture the metal bands can be seen holding the stumps together. They are a popular attraction at Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument in Colorado.
