El Greco The Virgin and Child with St. Martina and St. Agnes postcard. Oil painting on canvas circa 1599. El Greco was a master of religious painting whose work frequently featured the Virgin Mary. This Madonna and Child painting is one of his most charming and complex. The Virgin sits holding baby Jesus in her lap as two angels gaze on. Saint Martina and Saint Agnes stand below, one holding a lamb, the other stroking the head of a gentle lion.
