Bodmin Moor is a place of Myths and Legends - associated with King Arthur, Giants, Beasts, Smugglers and Highwaymen. Here the ponies, cattle and sheep roam and graze freely. The area is strewn with high tors and standing stones; tin mine engine houses, lakes, marshes and streams. There are few trees on the moor and those that grow are often stunted - shaped by the prevailing winds. The moor is a wild and beautiful place, but not a place to go walking after dark. Although these days you are unlikely to be accosted by a highwayman on the road near Jamaica Inn, and there have been no recent sightings of “The Beast”.
