Poster with Thomas Hardy poems of his beloved dog. Hardy (1840-1928) was an English novelist and poet. His second wife bought Wessex (a fox terrier related to King Edward VII's dog Caesar) in 1913 for security at their house. Hardy initially took a dislike to the dog due to his unruly behaviour. Overtime, he became very attached to Wessex. After the dog's death in 1926, Hardy wrote two poems about him - the second was written from the perspective of the dog, allowing 'Wessex' to speak for himself.
