This postcard features a golden stupa at Ganden Monastery overlooking the dry highlands and mountain valleys east of Lhasa. Ganden Monastery, east of Lhasa, was founded by Tsongkhapa in 1409 and became the first major monastery of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism. Its high setting on Wangbur Mountain gives the complex a dramatic relationship with the dry valleys and mountains of the Tibetan Plateau.
