Eyewitness accounts from those in the lifeboats noted that the fantail of the ship spun around and raised up to a steep angle. The lights flashed on once more amid the crashing of steam engines falling forward through the ship and then she slid into the sea.
The most memorable sea disaster of all times because it brought all classes together in a race to save their lives.
