In the Tokugawa family, the number of stamens on the crest was not consistent at first. According to the "Gomon-hikaesho" submitted to the shogunate by Goto Soden-suke, the official clothing provider, during the Bunsei era (1818-1830), the first three shoguns, Ieyasu, Hidetada, and Iemitsu, used 33 stamens.
