Travel America - WPA Postcard
On May 6, 1935, Congress created the Works Progress Administration (WPA). Many Americans were unemployed during the Great Depression, and the WPA was designed to create jobs and stimulate the economy. The arts project provided jobs to over 5000 artists, including Alexander Dux. Dux created this image of two tourists in a cavern for the United States Travel Bureau in 1939.
