In the nineteenth and early twentieth century all kinds of oriental designs were quite common. This was of course due to the vast empires of western countries like France and Britain. All kind of culture from India, Africa and the far east were shipped back to the homeland. But also the Ottoman Empire had a large influence on western culture. It was just a matter of time that eastern, Arabic style became part of daily life in the west. A cliche was the aristocratic lady or glamourous celebrity wearing oriental clothes at home.
