About This Design
Twelve Sunflowers in a Vase (Still-Life Painting) Doormat
This design features a painting by the Dutch Post-Impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890). Van Gogh painted a famous series of pictures depicting sunflowers. He was first inspired by the yellow flowers that he saw growing in the gardens of Montmartre, in the French capital city of Paris. However, this version was painted in Arles, in the South of France. The flowers are bright and in full bloom. For that reason, van Gogh's sunflowers can be seen as symbols of life, joy, friendship and hope. The French title of this painting is "Tournesols" [Sunflowers], and it was originally produced between 1888 and 1889. The work is of great importance in the history of art.
