Undaunted Leader, American Indian Lakota puzzle

The image in this puzzle comes from a James Ayers original painting, Undaunted Leader (2010, Lakota tribe). This is a favourite composition of mine: A profile is such a dramatic way to look at the human face–the angles are interesting to paint and you can use lighting to illuminate the facial high points. The Chief pictured in Undaunted Leader wears a “trailer” bonnet, so-called because of the magnificent feathers that trail down the wearer’s back. The base of each feather is wrapped with red trade felt and affixed with sinew. The front of the bonnet features classic Lakota beadwork with “greasy blue” beads, which helps to date this image to the mid-to late-1800s. (By contrast, quillwork instead of beads would indicate an earlier time frame.)
