These tombs were for members of the elite from the 3rd to 6th century. They demonstrate the differences in social classes of that period and show evidence of a highly sophisticated funerary system. Burial mounds of significant variations in size, the kofun take the geometrically elaborate design forms of keyhole, scallop, square or circle. They were decorated with paving stones and clay figures. Minegazuka Kofun is a round mounded tomb with a diameter of 62 m and a height of 10 m. It is the largest round kofun in the Furuichi area. A circular moat runs around the mound.
