Title:
Sites of Japan’s Meiji Industrial Revolution: Iron and Steel, Shipbuilding and Coal Mining - 明治日本の産業革命遺産 製鉄・製鋼、造船、石炭産業
Subtitle:
Takashima Coal Mine - 高島炭坑
Description:
The site encompasses a series of 23 component parts, mainly located in the southwest of Japan. It bears testimony to the rapid industrialisation of the country from the middle of the 19th century to the early 20th century, through the development of the iron and steel industry, shipbuilding and coal mining. The site illustrates the process by which feudal Japan sought technology transfer from Europe and America from the middle of the 19th century and how this technology was adapted to the country’s needs and social traditions.
Takashima Coal Mine, developed from 1869, was the first Japanese coalmine to be worked with Western technology. Hokkei Pit on Takashima Island is located 14.5 km offshore from Nagasaki Harbour. This was Japan's first modern coal mine mechanised by steam engines through a joint venture with Thomas B. Glover and later, in 1881, purchased by Mitsubishi.

Bought 10 Shakespeare quotes postcards and have framed them individually and placed them around the house Love them, some are funny and some are deep and meaningful! Lovely background on some, excellent printed words. A couple of plain white cards with black print - very stricking

My order was probably an awkward one! I asked for a range of different fine-art prints, in postcard size. It was all freshly printed, delivered quickly and at a very reasonable price. Best quality matt finish I've seen on a fine-art print.

The Zazzle cards are always beautifully done and these were no exception. I love these cards because, after over 70 years of collecting, I can fill in the gaps. I especially like the ones of UNESCO heritage sites, some of which are fairly obscure, and which have both photos and texts on them.
