V&A Blue Peacock Garden Greeting Card
This intricate pattern is the "Peacock Garden" wallpaper design, created in 1889 by the renowned English artist and illustrator Walter Crane.A prominent figure in the Arts and Crafts Movement, Crane designed this piece for the London-based manufacturer Jeffrey & Co.. The design is celebrated for its opulent, multi-layered aesthetic, featuring majestic peacocks woven through scrolling acanthus leaves, tulips, and wiry scrolls. It was so highly regarded that it won a gold medal at the 1889 Exposition Universelle in Paris.
This piece is part of the collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in London.
