In The Mulberry Tree, there is a craggy tree in the centre of the painting, growing from rocky terrain, with beautiful swirling tree branches, and a swirling blue sky, against a swirling tan landscape of rocks and light tan grasses. Van Gogh wrote about the Mulberry tree to his brother while he was painting at the Asylum, a time when he was happy. "I’ll tell you that we’re having some superb autumn days, and that I’m taking advantage of them.” The Mulberry Tree is a tree that Van Gogh saw from the Asylum's garden.
