Vintage Santa Claus Carrying a Crhistmas Tree Since when does Santa actually bring a tree with him? This image is based on a vintage Christmas Card from the late 1800s. Back then, Santa didn't always wear red. In this Santa Claus illustration, St. Nick is wearing a warm brown suit, and his bag of goodies is green. Santa Claus is walking through the snow, with a Christmas tree on his back. The snowstorm looks cold! Early cards of vintage Santa showed Santa in brown, green and red suits in the late 1800s. This card says "A Merry Christmas" -- and even though our Santa is wearing a brown suit, after all, he deserves a bit of a wardrobe change now and then! He's carrying a bright new drum in his package. I wonder what else santa has in hs toy bag?
