Vintage Blush Pink Potpourri Vase Photo Block. Discover the elegance and history of the Potpourri Vase (pot-pourri à vaisseau), a masterpiece from the late 1750s Sèvres collection. Among the most novel and ambitious designs, these vases feature extravagant shapes, such as the iconic elephant-head vases and the ship-shaped potpourri vase. Although not universally admired, with critics like Thomas Bentley calling them "clumsy," they were highly favored by the French court, including Louis-Joseph de Bourbon, prince de Condé, and Madame de Pompadour. Purchased in 1758, a garniture of five vases, including the potpourri vase, cost the prince 4,320 livres, exceeding a typical worker's annual income. Today, only ten ship-shaped vases and twenty-two elephant-head vases are known to survive, marking them as rare treasures of artistic and historical significance.
