Until 1945, Claremont, California's major source of income was the citrus industry and the College Heights Orange and Lemon Association was the first of three groups of citrus grower cooperatives. These early associations sent the first direct shipment of California citrus to Europe in 1893, with one of the boxes going to Queen Victoria for her birthday. We can't all be the monarch of a great nation, but we can enjoy a bit of history in our kitchen.
