Vintage Paris France Boulevard des Italiens Postcard
A colourful vintage / retro 19th Century illustration of the elegant Boulevard des Italiens in Paris, France. This detailed graphic art illustration depicts the famous "Librairie Nouvelle" ("The New Bookshop" in French) at the ground floor of a classic Haussmannian building on this famous shopping street in French capital. It was founded in 1849 and revolutioned the Parisian book market by selling books much cheaper than elsewhere: 1 franc 50 instead of 6 francs. The founders asked Honoré de Balzac to be the first author published by this house. Parisian artistic and literary society adopted it as a favourite meeting place. The latest books were put in the shop front window display, so that passers-by could take a look and choose a book for their spare time reading.
