This pair of fascinating magellanic woodpeckers are set against a golden looking background. This image is labelled as Iprocantor Megellanicus in an historic botanical reference called Birds of Terra del Fuego. It's been digitised and presented to the public domain by the Biodiversity Heritage Library. The Magellanic woodpecker (Campephilus magellanicus) is a very large woodpecker found in southern Chile and southwestern Argentina; it is resident within its range.
