A vintage book illustration by Henry Justice Ford featuring a beautiful woman wearing green. She has long wavy red hair and is sitting beside an open window that looks out onto the sea. She runs her fingers through her hair, lifting the long locks, as butterflies of many colours flit around her. The caption on the illustration is Venus's Fly Trap. The English artist and illustrator, Henry Justice Ford (1860-1941) often signed his work H. J. Ford. He first became well known for his illustrations for 25 collections of Andrew Lang’s fairy books which sold worldwide in the 1880s and 1890s. Lang titled his books using colours such as “The Red Fairy” and “The Green Fairy.” Ford also exhibited landscapes and paintings of historical subjects at the Royal Academy of Art.
