One of my favourite Japanese yokai is this random fish from the Bakemono Konrei Emaki (化物婚礼絵巻, Ghost Wedding Scroll). It is described by the International Research Centre for Japanese Studies as a sea bream riding a wooden pedestal, and what more do we need to know, really?
