Vintage Vinegar Valentine - Warning the Gossip, Holiday Card
In the late 1880s to 1940s, Vinegar Valentines were a popular way to send a message to someone you didn't like or someone you wanted to prank. They had rude but funny messages about a type of person that was written as an insult. This card depicts an older woman who is the town gossip. Everyone is so sick of her telling lies and spreading gossip that they've sealed her lips with a padlock that has a tag on it saying, "By Order of the Anti-Gossip Committee." The verse on the front of the card says, "A Warning - Pray take an honest friend's advice or you will have to pay the price. Your idle tongue must cease to wag or it will wear this warning tag." The inside of the card is blank for your own message.

Absolutely loved this card which was for husband on valentines day from our little yorkie. The yorkie on the card looked just like ours and because I could change the words to what I wanted was Absolutely Brilliant. Everything was exactly as I wanted the little yorkie was brilliant just like ours.
