Welcome to Scotland - Anglo-Scottish Border Sign Square Sticker

Drive up into Scotland on the M6 motorway, on the West side of England, and this is the road-sign that you will pass to know that you've entered Scotland. The traditional border - the River Lune - is underneath. You're not actually on the M6 at this point, as Gretna was the final junction, though no-one south of the border seems to realise it's the A747(M). In addition to being a national border, this is also the moment when Cumbria (England) becomes Dumfries and Galloway (Scotland). The legend is firstly in English, then in Gaelic, both say the same thing: Welcome to Scotland, or Fàilte gu Alba (Welcome to Alba, aka Scotland). The photograph was taken on September 18th 2014, on the day when Scotland held a referendum for independence, so this border may have been even more important on the way back down but for a narrow victory for the 'no' vote at the ballot box.
